Registration of EORI number in Estonia
EORI number is a unique identification number assigned to an entrepreneur by the customs authorities. It is mandatory for companies located in the customs territory of the European Union and engaged in transport, import, export and other customs procedures.
The Economic Operators Registration and Identification System was developed for customs services and is valid throughout the whole territory of the united Europe when exchanging goods with third countries. By registering in one of the EU member states, entrepreneurs automatically receive EORI numbers valid throughout the European Community. The Estonian Tax and Customs Board is responsible for issuing the numbers.
One person may have only one number, which must be used by all branches of the company that carry out activities within the framework of customs operations.

As of 01.07.2009, Estonia considers the availability of EORI numbers mandatory for companies operating in the field of foreign trade, export procedures, transit transport, import of products and other customs processes. The requirement to have an identification number also applies to the process of communicating with customs and/or other authorities of the European Union member states.

Why EORI numbers are needed
EORI numbers are the registration and identification number of entrepreneurs widely used in Estonia.
You do not need to register in the EORI system unless:
- your Estonian company supplies to non-EU member states or exports raw materials already on the EU market, does not carry out customs-related activities;
- your Estonian transport company does not operate in other EU member states.
EORI numbers can be obtained in two ways.
In the first, if you have an e-resident card, a member of the board of directors of the company can authorise on the website of the Tax and Customs Board and apply for a number online.
In this case, the number is assigned within one to two business days.
In the second option – if you do not have an e-resident card – you need to prepare a notarised power of attorney (we send you a sample) and give the original to your authorised person in Estonia.
In such cases, it will take a little more time to prepare and send the power of attorney.
Structure of EORI number in Estonia
The registration identifier contains information about the company in one of two possible formats:
- Alphabetic abbreviation EE + commercial register number
- Abbreviation EE + MRR number (non-resident registration number)
Thus, a company with the registration number 11223344 will be identified in the EORI system as EE11223344.
