Contact person in Estonia

After the changes came into force, the requirements have become stricter and the law now says that only holders of the status of:

• lawyer;
• notary public;
• auditor;
• a tax representative of a non-resident;
• a person holding a special licence to provide commercial partnership services.

Previously, the role of a contact person could be assumed by any Estonian resident, whether a natural person or a legal entity.

The new rules adopted by the state regulate that there are no duties and/or rights of the contact person directly in the company. The representative of the Contact Person cannot make decisions and does not have the right to sign documents related to the company’s activities.

His or her only function under the law is to receive postal mail and notices sent by the country’s public authorities (most often the Commercial Register is the sender of the letters).
